Alexandre Monteiro is a nautical and underwater archaeologist with a BA in Archaeology (Lisbon NOVA University) and post graduate studies also in Archaeology (NOVA) and in Scientific Diving (Leiria Polytechnical Institute).
Alexandre Monteiro specializes in fighting commercial activities directed against UCH, such as looting and corporate treasure hunting and in creating UCH historical databases, creating shipwreck inventories for Cape Verde, Mozambique, Portugal, Uruguay, Oman and the United Arab Emirates.
He is an Underwater Cultural Heritage (UCH) Advisor to the Cape Verde Government under the European funded project Margullar II European INTERREG V
Between 2018 and 2023, he was the co-coordinator of the citizen-based science project “OPP A Dive into History” (Portugal) and the co-manager of the Emirate of Sharjah (UAE) Underwater Cultural Heritage Survey Mission.
In the past 5 years he was the scientific co-manager of the European Project MARIE CURIE ITN Forest Resources for Iberian Empires: Ecology and Globalization in the Age of Discovery, ForSEAdiscovery and a co-coordinator for Portugal in the European Project H2020-SC6-CULT-COOP iMARECULTURE - Knowledge-based photogrammetry and three-dimensional modelling of topographic features, advanced VR, immersive serious games and augmented reality.
He was also an invited teacher of Maritime and Contemporary Archaeology at Lisbon NOVA University and an invited teaching facilitator for UNESCO and the Centre for Underwater Archaeology of the Eduardo Mondlane University, in Mozambique. He was Advisor for the UCH Heritage for the successful candidacy of the Azores Island Underwater Cultural Heritage for the 2019 European Heritage Label.
He has several Google Certifications, such as UX Design Professional Certificate; Project Management Professional Certificate; Data Analytics Professional Certificate; and IT Support Professional Certificate.
