Ethics
At UNIDCOM, we strictly adhere to all ethical and deontological regulations in place, as established by our host institution, Universidade Europeia, by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), and in accordance with applicable European guidelines. These include:
Ethics Oversight and Compliance
UNIDCOM does not have its own Ethics Council. Instead, we refer to the Ethics Committee of Universidade Europeia (University Ethics Committee Regulation – Portuguese version), which is responsible for evaluating the ethical compliance of research projects. This includes addressing issues related to the use of personal data, animal experimentation, and the protection of human participants' rights.
Additionally, the UNIDCOM Scientific Council oversees the implementation of ethical policies at the centre, ensuring ongoing reflection on best practices.
Open Access and Research Data Management
UNIDCOM complies with the Policy on Open Access to Scientific Publications Resulting from R&D Projects Funded by FCT - FCT Open Access Policy. We recommend that our researchers adopt best practices for research data management, as outlined in the FCT Policy on Open Access to Research Data - FCT Data Management Policy.
We encourage the publication of research results on open access platforms, such as institutional repositories or public databases. Publications by UNIDCOM researchers are available in the Universidade Europeia institutional repository – Sc1ence - Sc1ence Repository and student theses are available in the RCAAP Repository.
Ethical Policies at Universidade Europeia
UNIDCOM fully integrates and implements the following policies in its management and research activities:
• Code of Ethics
• Compliance Policy
• Gender Equality Plan
• Open Science Policies Open Science Policies

In addition, several members of UNIDCOM play active roles on the Ethics Council of Universidade Europeia. The University's professional conduct standards are also in place across all its institutions and are fully implemented at UNIDCOM. For reporting concerns, a dedicated whistleblowing channel is available here.
By adhering to these policies and ethical frameworks, UNIDCOM ensures that all of its practices and activities align with the highest standards of ethics and legality, fostering a responsible and transparent research environment.
