Amadeu graduated in Health Psychology and completed an MSc in Psychiatry and Mental Health, both at the University of Porto, in Portugal. His MSc study of adolescent depression was later awarded an honorable mention at the 2002 BIAL Clinical Medicine Prize.
Some years later, he achieved a Ph.D. degree in Psychophysiology at the University of Birmingham (UK), where he ran experiments on the cardiovascular influences in sensory and cognitive functions. He then held some short-term academic appointments until he joined the University of Cambridge (UK), where he received further training in Neuroscience. At Cambridge, Amadeu spent over two years applying neurophysiological techniques to an ovine model of dementia, until he joined a research institute (I3S, UP) back home to study inflammatory correlates of depression.
He currently works as an Assistant Professor at Universidade Europeia, where he reads Experimental Psychology and Neuroscience modules. He has collaborated in several research projects and published in high-profile journals such as Brain or The Journal of Neuroscience. Amadeu is currently accepting prospective students aiming to apply experimental paradigms to uncover new routes for design-induced persuasion. During his free time, painting and playing the guitar.
