Edirlei Soares de Lima has a Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio), a M.Sc. degree in Computer Science from Federal University of Santa Maria (UFSM), and a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from Contestado University (UnC). Currently he is Assistant Professor at Universidade Europeia – IADE, and coordinator of the Games Development course.
He has been conducting research in the areas of Games and Digital Entertainment, in particular in the development of new methods of Artificial Intelligence for Games and Interactive Narratives. His investigation has proposed new forms of generation, interaction, and representation of interactive narratives in contexts ranging from Digital Games to Interactive Cinema, exploring multiple domains of Computer Science and Design.
During his career, his work and research received several awards and honors, including best paper awards at SBGames 2020, 2019, 2018 and 2016 (Brazilian Symposium on Computer Games and Digital Entertainment), ICEC 2015 (IFIP International Conference on Entertainment Computing), and WebMedia 2014 (Brazilian Symposium on Multimedia and the Web). In 2011, his research on video-based interactive storytelling received an honorable mention on "Innovation" from the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and, in 2012, he received another honorable mention from the ITU, at this time on "Interactivity". In 2010, he was awarded at the SBGames indie game development festival, where his game "Krimson" was selected as the best game and received honorable mentions for "best art" and "best technology".
He has more than 10 years of teaching experience. From 2011 to 2015, he was professor at the Informatics Department of the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio), where he taught courses on Artificial Intelligence, Programming Techniques, and Game Programming. From 2014 to 2015, he also worked as substitute professor at Federal State University of Rio de Janeiro (UNIRIO), where he taught courses on Programming Techniques and Games. From 2015 to 2018 he worked as Adjunct Professor at the department of Computational Modeling at Rio de Janeiro State University (UERJ/IPRJ), where he organized and taught a number of courses in the bachelor's program in Computer Engineering. In 2018, he became Assistant Professor at Universidade Europeia – IADE, where he has been teaching several courses on Games Development.
